This weekend I was at a holiday party with people I had not hung out with since high school. Sharing my life story with them, I learned (re-learned) that my life has been full and rich, and made up of many chapters. These chapters have included living in New York City, working in a shipyard, going to Harvard, raising two kids as a single mother, consulting to global corporations, teaching leadership to health workers in Africa and Afghanistan, and teaching leadership to masters and doctoral students at Boston University.
It has been a whirlwind of changes and people – including life partners that were with me in each chapter. That is why “Conscious (and peaceful) Uncoupling TM” is such an important part of my work.
I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I got to live the life my mother dreamed of, in a time when opportunities and choices were opening up for women. I was fortunate to have been born in a region of the world, and into a family, that gave me access and encouragement to explore these opportunities.
Now, as I enter the age of wisdom, one that Plato called, the “hoary head”, I have perspective on what it takes to move through the phases of your life in a way that is satisfying and fulfilling. That’s why I coach people through “Life Transitions” — supporting them to make the most of their lives and what has been given to them.
A client, a senior scientist in biotech, wrote to me today about a conversation she had with her CEO. She asked him to recognize her leadership contributions to the organization by including her on the management team. She wrote, “Regardless of what happens next, I would not have managed to have this conversation were it not for your coaching. I am sooooo happy to be working with you and learning from you. It’s just fantastic.”
That made my day.
I want people to have the courage and the encouragement to take risks to make the contributions that matter to them, and to live a life they love. That is why I offer Leadership and Life Transitions Coaching
